Oh Dear!

Hi Liz

Well I am so so sorry but I have not been able to complete my work.  I realised some time ago that I had really overstretched myself in trying to complete this course in addition to all the other things that I have been undertaking.

I have completed the Wire Project and the 26 Faces.  When I joined I knew that it would be difficult as I have never done anything like this before, but I have learnt so much.

I am able to transfer this knowledge and am using it daily in my work within the North Wales Women’s Centre.

You have been the most fantastic tutor and I thank you for your time and effort, patience and understanding.  One of my biggest regrets in not completing is that I feel I may have let you down and for that I am sorry.

This group of students have been such fun to be with and I am so pleased to have met each and every one of them.

I truly wish I could begin again!

Juxtaposition

Novenber 2008.  Topics: a) Myth v Reality b) Time Flies c) Seismic Shift d) Washed Up.

I am obviously writing this after the event.  Looking back I remember thinking washed up would be fairly easy as I live near the beach and that would be the basis for this title.  Time flies – initial thoughts were life/death. Was not sure about the other two titles.

November

Life is getting busier! This course really makes me want to spend time on homework!… but I am finding it really hard to fit it in.  November is a busy month – have first grandchild due, a week away on a pre-booked holiday and a job opportunity and all that is in addition to a full time course in another college.  Did not panic at this point as there would always be the Christmas holiday to catch up!

Observational Drawing and Wire Model

October 2008.  Drawing was a nightmare for me.  I felt I could not draw and remember feeling inadequate and rather stupid.  I attempted to draw a couple of objects in the centre and they just brought out laughter.

I then decided that if I was going to be successful I would have to overcome my fear.  I found a small clock and had a go at drawing that using ink.  I couldn’t imagine transferring that to wire so I then went on to drawing a glass water jug.

The jug worked!  I drew it using ink and then added glass paint on to a laminated surface.

I made the wire model using chicken wire for the body, base and handle.  Soldering wire held it together and speaker wire and garden wire were used to add effect.  I enjoyed making the model far more than drawing it.

The photography came next.  We visited the photographic Studio in Glyndŵr University.  It was here that I was able to consider the effect of lighting and shadows.

I also experimented with candle light.

I have made the selection of photos in Illustrator and will need to check why the background is black when it is uploaded!
